RE: Incident at Wharton High School

Dear Parent/Guardians:

This letter is to inform you that one of our students posted a picture on social media that indicated they were in possession of a weapon on school grounds. The Wharton ISD Police Department immediately responded and investigated the matter.  The Wharton Independent School District is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise.

The Wharton High School office received this information today. The investigation was promptly started.  Wharton High School was placed on a lock out at approximately 2:30 p.m. and lasted thirty (30) minutes.  At no time was any student placed at risk.

The student will receive appropriate consequences for this infraction.  Please discuss this incident with your children and emphasize that it is against the law to bring weapons of any type to school. Also, please emphasize the importance of telling you or a staff member if there is a weapon at school. In this way, we are all working together to keep our school safe.

Please feel free to call me at 979-532-6800 or email me at ooduwole@whartonisd.net if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Olatunji Oduwole

Principal
