CMSgt (Chief) Edward Slacum
Chief Slacum served 30 years in the Air Force, retiring in 2018. He earned his Master Instructor Certification while assigned as an Instructor for the Air Force Intelligence Officer Course. During his time on active duty, Chief Slacum had the opportunity to serve in various leadership positions to include Interim Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Wing and Senior ISR Liaison Officer to the Commanders of United States European Command and United States Africa Command. Chief Slacum concluded his Air Force career as the Superintendent for the 548th ISR Group where he led over 1,500 Airmen, civilians and defense contractors in global ISR operations. Chief Slacum joined the Wharton team in August 2018 and serves as the Aerospace Science Instructor and Director of Air Force JROTC programs for Wharton High School.

Before School Team Meetings: 7:00 am to 7:45 am
Afterschool Team Activities: Monday through Thursday afterschool until 5:00 pm.
For instructor-led tutoring (covering AFJROTC), cadets may contact the instructors in-person or via email to schedule tutoring sessions. All instuctor-led tutoring sessions will begin 15 minutes after the last bell of the day.
Peer-to-peer tutoring is available upon request for any subject. Cadets interested in being a tutor need to contact the instructors and let us know what subjects you would like to tutor. Cadets requesting tutoring assistance should coordinte with the instructors so a suitable tutor can be found. Tutoring in the AFJROTC facility may be held before school or afterschool depending on the needs of the individuals involved.
