Mrs. Crystal Valdez

Wharton ISD

Crystal Valdez joined the Wharton Tigers team in June 2020. She is new to learning Texas School
Finance but comes with many years in both K-12 education and higher education in New Mexico. She
has a desire to improve processes and oversee all monetary transactions to ensure that taxpayers
receive the best outcome from their investment in our students.

Ms. Valdez started her career related to finance at New Mexico State University, where she provided
support for technology and report writing for the central accounting department. After twelve years of
continual growth in accounting at the Higher Education level, she moved to support finance at Las
Cruces Public Schools, which is the second-largest school district in New Mexico. She enjoyed continual
growth to the level of Chief Financial Officer, which afforded her many opportunities, including building
relationships with the community, board and school employees – all of which made her a stronger

Ms. Valdez earned her Bachelor and Accountancy and her Master of Business Administration from New
Mexico State University. Also, she became a Certified School Business Official with the Association of
School Business Officials International and served on the Board of New Mexico Association of School
Business Officials. She currently is a member of the Texas Association of School Business Officials and is
progressing in her coursework toward certification with Texas.

Ms. Valdez spent most of her childhood and public school education in El Paso, Texas. She has been
married to her best friend, Robbie Valdez, for the past ten years. She raised two sons, predominantly as
a single mother, and is very grateful to have the blessing of two beautiful granddaughters. Additionally,
she continues to desire to learn and build relationships to improve education and quality of life for all
students. She is extremely grateful for the opportunities afforded her and would like all individuals to
be given the same, knowing that education can change the trajectory of one's life.
